Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for concrete road curing and texturing operations
   • Access, interpret and apply concrete road curing and texturing documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
   • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
   • Select and wear correct personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
   • Identify, obtain, confirm and implement signage requirements
   • Select and check for faults all plant, tools and equipment to carry out
2. Setup and maintain the texture and curer machine
   • Ensure correct Set up paver width and settings
   • Use paving drawings and survey markings to establish work area
   • Conduct pre-operational checks including prestart checks
   • Check filters and sprays for correct operation
   • Adjust stringline sensors within workplace specifications
3. Operate the texture and curer machine
   • Check for hazards around the texture curing machine
   • Make adjustments to sensors and controls while paving
   • Use communication systems and hand signals within workplace specifications
   • Check spray rates for correct operation
   • Check texture rake configuration for correct settings
4. Shut down and clean up
   • Secure machine with appropriate safety supports
   • Check and clean filters and nozzles
   • Clean work area and dispose of, or recycle, materials
   • Clean, check, maintain and store plant and tools
   • Safely park machine

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of concrete road curing and texturing including:

accessing, interpreting and applying documentation relevant to conducting concrete road curing and texturing operations

identifying and applying relevant specifications to all work activities

identifying, addressing and reporting potential hazards and risks

identifying, obtaining, confirming and implementing signage requirements

selecting and checking for faults all plant, tools and equipment to carry out tasks

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues and ground conditions

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the concrete road curing and texturing operations in a way that meets all of the required outcomes including:

preparing for and organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using a range of communication techniques and aids to advise others of work activity and exclusion zones

monitoring movements and hazards and identifying and communicating changes to the work environment during the work process

demonstrates completion of concrete road curling and texturing operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

setting up and maintaining the texture and curer machine in accordance with job specification, plans and organisation work procedures

operating the texture and curer machine correctly for specified results

shutting down and clean up in keeping with worksite procedures and manufacturer’s specifications

conducting road curing and texturing operations to ensure:

correct calculation and application of road curing compound

correct application of texture type according to specifications

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in conducting concrete road curing and texturing operations through:

accessing, interpreting and applying organisation and site requirements and procedures for:
